Royal Horticultural Society
About the RHS
Britain's gardening charity, the Royal Horticultural Society, has a long
and interesting history dating from 1804. Founded originally under the
title The Horticultural Society of London, by Sir Joseph Banks and John
Wedgwood, its aim was to collect information about all plants, and to
encourage the improvement of horticultural practice. Today the Royal
Horticultural Society is the UK’s leading gardening charity dedicated to
advancing horticulture, promoting and encouraging gardening for all.
Their goal is to share their passion for plants and gardening with the
widest possible audience in order to inspire and inform gardening in
public and in private spaces.
RHS Individual and Gift Membership:
A great gift for any garden lover!
Yearly Gift Membership Cost: £49
Yearly Individual Membership Cost: £49
The RHS is a charity that receives no direct support from the government
and they rely on every member and garden visitor to help fund their work.
Over the last 200 years, the RHS has used the money from membership
subscriptions to fulfill their charitable aims to make gardens and
gardening accessible to as many people as possible. Here is a snapshot of
what the RHS has achieved, and will continue to deliver through the
support of its members.
They invest in operating four RHS gardens and staging 16 shows across the
UK; give free one-to-one expert advice to members on any gardening matter
– more than 75,000 enquiries a year; work with children: 9,000 schools
benefit from their Campaign for School Gardening;
engaged with 1,700 communities across the UK through both Britain in Bloom
and the Neighbourhood Awards; and they support more than 2,700 local
gardening clubs.
The RHS invests as much of their membership subscriptions as they possibly
can into their charitable projects, so their members can be confident that
their money is making a real impact. Without their members the RHS would
be unable to sustain their work with gardeners of today and tomorrow, so
now more than ever they need the support of both their long and loyal
members and new members alike.
In return for supporting them, they are proud to be able to thank their
members with a host of RHS member benefits including free entry to RHS
gardens with a family guest, as often as they wish, and The Garden monthly
magazine and much more!
With the RHS Membership, you’ll be treated a whole year of great RHS
benefits, including:
• Free garden visits
• Personal gardening advice
• Free monthly magazine
• Discounted flower show tickets
