5 of the Best Courses on a Mallorca Golf Holiday
By Morgan Clarke
Mallorca has transformed in recent years to become one of the
best new golfing hotspots in Europe. Mallorca golf holidays are
really growing in popularity thanks to the
recently-built top-quality courses, fine Mediterranean food,
the fine weather and a heavy investment in re-establishing the
island as the ideal escape for middle-class Europe. Whether
you’re going for golf, golf, golf or if you fancy a top-class
hotel, you’ll have a big smile on your face. If you’re planning
on a golf break in Mallorca, these are the 5 courses you simply
must pay a visit to:
Canyamel Golf
This is one of those golf courses which is a genuine joy to
play from the first hole to the last. It’s a very pretty set-up
and boasts stunning views - by the fourth hole you can see over
the edge of a cliff into the brilliant blue waters beyond. The
actual design is tricky so you’ll need to think off the tee and
be happy to settle for 36 points. Definitely one to play on a
golf break in Mallorca.
Club De Golf
Scoring an impressive 17/20 in the Peugeot Golf Guide, this
Trent Jones Jr design offers coastal views along with a fine
game of golf. Long holes and some steep slopes provide the core
of the challenge so hit your drives to the right spot and always
hit longer than you think necessary. A very nice course with an
authentic “Spanish” feel to it.
Golf in Majorca doesn’t come much better than this.
Golf Park Mallorca
One of the more recent additions to Mallorca’s golf courses,
this Jack Nicklaus-design has swiftly joined the ranks of
Europe’s best. You’ll need to be accurate to score well, and
approach shots require special concentration to deal with the
hallmark Nicklaus hazards – bunkers, water and huge greens.
Already a clients’ favourite and arguably the final piece in the
Mallorcan golf jigsaw…There is now no reason not to go on
a Mallorca golf break.
Pula Golf
Host to the Mallorcan Open and with a mountain backdrop, this
is a course that combines good looks with an enjoyable
challenge. In fact, it’s one of the most difficult in Mallorca
especially when the wind picks up, and matching the Par of 70 is
a tough task…Particularly off the back tees at 6,676 yards
length.
Son Vida
In the shadow of Son Vida’s castle, this is Mallorca’s oldest
course and it has aged well with the occasional tweak to the
excellent original Fred Hawtree design. Renowned for its great
greens, it’s also a very lovely walk with a super lunch on offer
too. However, make sure you don’t get lulled into a false sense
of security because the back nine can bite and golf balls are
not cheap!
The sun, the fine sea food and the splendid golf make golf
breaks in Mallorca a real treat. Plus, in the golfing peak
months of September through to June, you’ll see this beautiful
island at is very best. Classy sunshine golf.
