Puerto Pollensa’s Famous Fans
By Lucie Evans

Puerto Pollensa was recently described as heaven on earth by
award-winning Olympic gold cyclist, Bradley Wiggins. However,
Bradley isn’t the first famous face to be drawn to this
traditional area of the island. We take a look at the
celebrities that just can’t get enough of Puerto Pollensa:

Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams’s luxury villa in Puerto Pollensa can be viewed
whilst on a boat trip over the Formentor Headland. It is often
pointed out to excited visitors, hoping to catch a glance of the
singer at home. But even if you’re not lucky enough to spot
Robbie in the flesh while pottering around his Pollenca villa,
you may be rewarded with the next best thing: a glimpse of the
island of Menorca on a sunny day. Okay, so it’s not exactly
Robbie, but on a particularly clear day you can see all the way
across the ocean to Menorca’s crumbling coastline. With views
like that, it’s no wonder Robbie chose the Formentor Headland as
his ideal location for a holiday villa in Puerto Pollensa.

Winston Churchill

There’s a lot that you can do whilst on a villa holiday in
Puerto Pollensa: horse riding, boat trips and even line dancing.
But when British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill holidayed in
the area, he liked to paint. Like Robbie, Winston was a fan of
the Formentor Headland and although he didn’t own a Pollenca
villa in the region, he liked to while away a day sitting on the
rocky Formentor Promontory with a paintbrush in his hand. His 5*
hotel of choice has introduced many celebrities to the Formentor
Region, from Audrey Hepburn to the Prince and Princess of Wales.
But whilst we’re impressed, you can’t beat a Pollenca villa for
a more traditional stay on the Formentor Headland.

Agatha Christie

When Agatha Christie took her holidays in Pollenca, she
preferred to stay in the salubrious Pine Walk region. But
although Agatha didn’t own a holiday villa in Puerto Pollensa,
her 5* hotel of choice later provided the inspiration for the
fictional “Pino d’Oro Hotel” in her short story “Problems at
Pollensa Bay”. However, with the book which was published in
1936 concentrating on a failed marriage and a murder at the
hotel, we can’t help but feel that Agatha may have had better
luck if she’d instead spent her holidays in a Pollenca villa.

Peter Ustinov

Continuing with the Agatha Christie connection, Poirot actor,
Peter Ustinov was another regular visitor to the famous
Formentor Headland. Peter liked to moor his yacht in the area
for two weeks every year and enjoy the slow-pace of island life.
When Peter was spending time relaxing, he was lucky enough to
shoot a number of films on his favourite island. Most notable
was ‘Evil Under the Sun’ in which Peter enjoyed his second
outing as Agatha’s famous Belgian detective, Poirot. The film
which was based on the book ‘Bearn’, was set on the Adriatic
Coast, but was filmed along the much warmer Formentor Headland
and Raixa County Estate.
